While the planning, design and inspiration happen in Old Mystic, CT, the throwing and firing take place in New York City, at the Greenwich House Pottery, in business since 1909.

All of the work shown here is hand thrown stoneware or porcelain, high-fired to cone 10 in a gas reduction kiln.  All glazes are food safe.  All pieces are oven and microwave safe.

The gas reduction firings can give pieces a deeper, earthier look.  Packer Road Pottery specializes in traditional forms and vessels for everyday life, bringing art to the craft with glaze variants and design.

Artist Jessica Bruce, who likes a nice slouchy mug, says, "Clay is a wonderfully strong medium.  We have pottery pieces in museums that are thousands of years old.  I find the beauty in working with clay is the ability to make that stone-like substance seem to move - to give the illusion that it has just settled after moving just out of sight, while you were looking in the other direction.  At the same time, I don't want to abandon the clay's signature throwing lines, glaze mottling and grit. I am chasing after the perfect curve in bowls, though I haven’t found it yet."
